Pothos (Devil’s Ivy) Care Guide

Pothos (Devil’s Ivy) Care Guide

Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is one of the easiest houseplants to care for. It’s low-maintenance, air-purifying, and adapts well to various indoor conditions.

Light

  • Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates low light.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

  • Water when the top 50-75% of the soil is dry.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot. Underwatering may lead to drooping leaves.

Soil

  • Use a well-draining potting mix. Adding perlite improves aeration.
  • Can also grow in water—just change the water every 7-10 days.

Temperature & Humidity

  • Prefers temperatures between 65-85°F (18-30°C).
  • Tolerates normal indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting.

Fertilizing

  • Feed once a month during the growing season (spring & summer).
  • No need to fertilize in winter.

Pruning & Propagation

  • Trim leggy vines to encourage bushier growth.
  • Easily propagated by cutting a stem with at least one node and placing it in water.

Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves → Overwatering or lack of light.
  • Brown tips → Dry air or underwatering.
  • Pests (mealybugs, spider mites) → Wipe leaves with a damp cloth or use insecticidal soap.

Pet Safety

⚠️ Pothos is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep it away from cats and dogs.

Pothos is a perfect plant for beginners and makes any space greener with minimal effort. Happy growing! 🌿
